Shepards Pie is one of the classical dishes which is from the UK – It is said that in late 1700, housewives used the leftover meat topped up with Affordable Potato crust ( made with usually mashed potato). Mostly Shepards pie is usually made with Lamb, vegetables, and gravy topped with creamy cheese and Potato mash crust. It is one of the classical dishes which is taught in colleges in India and abroad.
Recipe For Shepards Pie
Potato Mash – 200 Gm
Lamb mince – 300 Gm
Carrot – 60 Gm
Green peas – 60 Gm
Rosemary – 2- 3 sprigs
Worcestershire Sauce ( L & P ) – 5 ml
Onion – 100 gms
Garlic Clove – 20 gms
Salt to Taste
Black Pepper- 3-4 gm s
Olive Oil – 15 -20 ml
Refined flour – 20 gm
Red wine – 60 ml
Chicken Stock – 100 ml
Tomato Paste- 20 gm
Method:-
1) Make the Potato Mash with cheese and keep it aside for the lovely cheese crust.
2) Take a skillet pan, Add the oil, and saute the Minced Lamb for 8 mins, add the chopped onion and garlic to the meat mix and saute for another 6 mins.
3) Add the Refined flour and cook till the flour sticks to the plan, deglaze it with red wine, and cook for a minute as the chicken stock, rosemary, tomato paste, and WC sauce cook for a few minutes.
4) Add the vegetable and cook till they mix uniformly, check for seasoning and cook it covered on low heat till the sauce thickens.
5) Take a Deep pie pan, Add the Meat mixture to the pan and spread it evenly, put the cheesy mash on top of this meat mixture and spread it well. Drizzle some melted butter on top of the mashed potato.
6) Place the Pan in the oven for around 25- 30 mins at a temperature of 200 degrees C.
7) Garnish with fresh parsley and serve it hot.
Serving tip: – Cut the edge around the mash and scoop the meat along with the mash. Enjoy the ultimate Comfort food.
