The audience will continue to be intrigued by programs based on real-life events, according to director Prasad Kadam. Such shows, in his opinion, will always be successful.
“The average person will always be interested in watching dramatizations of true events. That explains why long-running programs like Crime Petrol were successful. An audience will always exist for such content. It is not an escape. Simply put, curiosity is human. The degree of honesty a director exhibits when choosing such stories varies from director to director, he claims.
There is a lot of brutality and violence on OTT and even in some films, this is natural, he claims, adding that “the brutality and violence has always existed in cinema.” Modern methods have always been used by the creators to put it on screen. We didn’t find it as brutal back then since it didn’t feel as real. With the development of VFX and prosthetic makeup methods, we can now produce some extremely graphic and terrible situations that appear incredibly real on screen. As long as the story is engaging, I don’t mind seeing violent scenes. Few filmmakers, like Quentin Tarantino, have to deal with criticism for their films’ extreme violence. However, I didn’t particularly like many of these films and TV shows because brutality wasn’t a necessary component of the story.
The director continues by saying that in order for a movie to succeed in theatres, the audience must be given a full experience. “When it comes to the Indian market for theatrical releases, only films with a big budget are successful. Today, theatergoers will attend for an experience as much as quality material. They have changed to watch quality films and television shows on OTT. Regarding OTT platforms, I believe there is room for everything. The Panchayat functions effectively if Mirzapur does. On OTT, well-made content that is well-promoted will always succeed. No specific genre can limit that realm, he claims.
